In Pescara at the Mediterranean Games, Aschwin Wildeboer (ESP) won the 100m backstroke in 52.87, off a 25.12. The time is inside his and Europe's fast-suited era best and left him well up on Aristeidis Grigoriadis (GRE), on 54.00, and Mirco di Tora (ITA), on 54.45.

Oussama Mellouli (TUN), Olympic champion over 1,500m free, claimed the 200m crown in 1:46.44, while the women's equivalent went to Patricia Ortega (ESP), on 1:58.91.
