Mai Nakamura of Japan has established a new short course world record in the 100m Backstroke pending FINA ratification with a time of 58.45 on March 4 at regional meet called the Kanto College Winter Meet in the city of Sagamihara. Her 50m split time was 28.45.

The current record is 58.50 by Angel Martino from 1993.
