Natalie Coughlin and Richard Quick Receive Pac-10 Women's Honors

WALNUT CREEK, CA. - CALIFORNIA's Natalie Coughlin and STANFORD's Richard Quick were named the 2000-01 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Swimmer/Newcomer and Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Coughlin, a freshman from Concord, Calif., was outstanding at the NCAA Championships in East Meadow, N.Y. She established NCAA records in each of her three individual titles. Coughlin won the 100-and 200-yard backstroke and the 100 butterfly. She also broke American and U.S. Open marks in the backstroke events, and was a member of the American record-breaking 200-and 400-yard medley relay teams. At the Pacific-10 Championships in Federal Way, Wash., Coughlin won the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle relay events. She placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley.

Quick led Stanford to a runner up finish at the NCAA Championships. At the championships, his swimmers won three individual titles and two relay titles. At the Pac-10 Championships, Quick led the Cardinal to nine individual titles and three relay titles. The women's swimming Coach of the Year award is the fourth of Quick's career.

The Swimmer, Newcomer and Coach of the Year honors are determined by a coaches vote.
