Libby Trickett, Olympic 100m butterfly champion and world record holder on sprint freestyle, will move to Sydney later this year to train under the guidance of coach Grant Stoelwinder at the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre with sprinter and fellow Olympic medal winner Eamon Sullivan, according to reports Down Under.
Trickett is expected to announce on October 1 that she is to leave coach Stephan Widmer in Brisbane. The swimmer is following her husband, Luke, south as he pursues a job in the finance industry, according to the Australian media.
Stoelwinder and Sullivan confirmed they would relocate to Sydney from Perth before the Olympic Games. As such, the fastest man and the fastest woman ever seen in water will be training in the same pool under the guidance of the same coach.
Trickett's move follows a shift to Widmer's squad of key butterfly rival Jessica Schipper. At the time that was announced, Trickett said: "I will be honest. It will be very, very challenging to say the least. But it is also very exciting at the same time to try and create an even greater competition." That competition will now be confined to the race pool, it seems.
