The final day of the French Campionships turned out to be a big day for Algeria's Salim Iles, who beat Olympic Champion Pieter van den Hoogenband in the mens 50 freestyle. Iles had a time of 22.66 while Hoogenband was second in 22.85.

Two days ago Iles set a new African record in the mens 100 freestyle with his time of 49.65.
