Brazilian National Champs - Day 2 Report

In action at the Brazilian Nationals Monique Ferreira wrapped up an easy victory with in the womens 400 free with her time of 4:18.94. the real battle was for second place between Nayara Ribeiro and Mariana Brochado. Brochado who won the womens 200 free a day earlier, touched out Ribeiro by the narrowest of margins, 1/100 of a second. There times were 4:21.76 and 4:21.77.

In another tight race, the mens 400 free was won by Rodrigo Castro in a time of 3:57.62 just beating out the 8 time champion in this event Luiz Lima who finished in 3:57.87.

In the womens 100 back Fabiola Molina a meet record with her time of 1:03.76. It was the only record in morning finals session.

In the mens 100 back Paulo Machado missed the standard for Fukuoka of (56.17). His time of 56.50 put him in second behind visiting ukranian swimmer Volodimir Nikolaychuk who won the event in 56.26.

The Comini sisters went 1-2 in the 50 breast event. This time around younger sister Milene beat her older sister Patricia to win the event. Their times were 34.17 and 34.22.

There was no surprise when in the mens 50 breast as Eduardo Fischer won with a time of 29.05. The day before in the heats he set a new South American record in the event with his time of 28.82.

Gustavo Borges did the qualifying time for the 50 with his 22.84, but Edvaldo Valerio opened the 4x50 free relay with a fast 22.67. Nicholas Santos had a qualifying time of 22.82 from last year, so now the 2 that will swim this event in Fukuoka will have to be decided in the finals.
