Jul 15, 2001  - Neville Smith

Melissa Corfe (Mr. Price Seagulls - KZN) claimed a South African age group record in the 200m freestyle while a further four meet records fell on Saturday, the second day of the Speedo / Durban Renault Prestige gala currently underway at the Kings Park Aquatic complex in Durban.

Corfe shaved .05 seconds off club mate Candice Craffords girls aged 15 mark of 2:06.80 which was set at SA Nationals on 1st March 1996. Corfe was placed second in the ladies open event when she posted a 2:06.75 in a vain effort to chase down the Kings Park stalwart, Kirsten van Heerden who had wrestled an early advantage from Donna Leslie (Kloof - KZN) to hang on and claim the title. Kirsten claimed the title in 2:06.18 while Donna had to settle for bronze in 2:06.78.

The first met record to fall of the evening went to Peter Todd (Aqualions - EC) in the 12 and under 200m freestyle. Todd thrashed the field when he took a massive 4.96 seconds off the 1999 mark of Sean Fisher posting a 2:10.25 in a race that saw him dominate from the outset and win in convincing fashion. Vaughan de Jager (Crawford Aquatics - NT) claimed second place in 2:15.49 while Shane Fantham settled for the bronze in 2:17.23.

The Pretoria Aquatics duo of Gerhard Zandberg and Carl Marais both demolished Greg Main - Ballie
