Hackett Sets World Record at Aussie SC Champs

Aug 3, 2001

Less than a week after breaking Kieran Perkins World Record in the mens 1500 freestyle at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Grant Hackett has broken the 800 freestyle World Record Short Course at the Australian Short Course Championships.

Hackett finihsed with a time of 7:25.28, taking an incredible 9.63 seconds off the previous record.

" Kieren was an amazing swimmer and it's been a pleasure to take the world record off him for the last time, I have a lot to thank him for but at the moment I 'am just thrilled with the result," he said.

Amazingly, Hackett had swum in the heats for the 200m freestyle earlier in the morning session before his timed final heat in the 800m free.
