World Record Bettered Twice In One Night

An exciting night of Swimming at the Telstra Australian Short Course Swimming Championships had the women's 200m backstroke World record fall twice in just 90 minutes.

First was the final of the women's 200m backstroke in which Australia's Clementine Stoney broke the existing record of 2:06.09 with her time of 2:05.83.

90 minutes later in the B-Final of the women's 200m backstroke event, Britain's Sarah Price went out and broke the record for the second time in the evening with her time of 2:04.44.

Here's how the two women split their races.

In other women's events of the evening Petria Thomas set a new Commonwealth mark in the women's 50m butterfly with her time of 26.43, while teammate Sarah Ryan bettered her Australian record in the 100m freestyle with a 53.47.

In the men's events of the evening, Australian Jim Piper established a new Commonwealth record of 2:06.92 in the mens 200m breaststroke and Matt Welsh lowered his own Commonwealth record in the men's 50m backstroke to 23.82.
