Australian SC Championships - Day 4

Geoff Huegill began another night of fast swimming at the Telstra Australian Short Course Championships in Perth, by improving on the men's 50m butterfly Australian record with a time of 23.14.

Matt Welsh won the men's 50m backstroke event with a time of 24.13. This is his second event win of the championships.

Brooke Hanson added a second gold medal from this championships to her collection. Brooke won the women's 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.95, a body length ahead of second place finihser Leisel Jones who was second in 1:08.10. The sub 1:07 time was a personal best for Brooke marking the first time she has been under that mark.

Lori Munz was well ahead of the field in winning the women's 200m individual medley with a time of 2:10.73. The second place finisher was Brooke Hanson with a time of 2:14.69. Jennifer Reilly was third in 2:14.76.

Petria Thomas was the fast qualifier in the semi finals of the women's 50m backstroke with a time of 28.22. A few events later she set a Commonwealth Record with a time of 57.73, in the semi finals of the women's 100 butterfly.

British sprint star Alison Sheppard set Commonwealth records twice, once in the morning heats and again in the evening's semi finals of the women's 50m freestyle. Her record breaking time in the event was 24.51. In the same event, Aussie Sarah Ryan set a national record with her time of 24.78.

In the final event of the evening, the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team from Chamndler established a new Australian club record, with a time of 3:46.38.
