Australian SC Championships - Day 5

In a real crowd thriller, Grant Hackett broke his own World record in the men's 1500m freestyle finishing in 14:10.10, and continuing to race until the 1550 meter mark.

The previous record which was held by Hackett was 14:19.55. It's his third World Record in 10 days. Having broken the 800m freestyle record earlier this week and the 1500m long course record in Fukuoka.

In a close finish, Ashley Calus outtouched Micheal Klim to win the men's 100m freestyle. Their respective times were 47.81 to 47.86. In third was Todd Pearson 48.02. Ian Thorpe had to settle for a fourth place finish in the race.

Rebecca Cooke, Great Britain won the women's 1500m freestyle in a Commonwealth Record time of 15:52.97. Her teammate Nathalie Brown was second in a time of 16:13.27.

Petria Thomas, Brooke Hanson and Matt Welsh all completed sweeps in their respective events.

Petria Thomas won the women's 100m butterfly in a time of 58.05. This completed her sweep of the women's butterfly events at this championships having won the 50, 100 and 200 meter events.

Brooke Hanson won the women's 200m breaststroke event in 2:23.65. This completed her sweep of the women's breaststroke events, and Matt Welsh won the men's 200m backstroke event in a time of 1:51.95, completing his sweep of all the men's backstroke events.
