Match 3
Europe All-Stars v. Australia

Australians into Gold Medal Match by Demoralising the European All-Stars

Thorpe was put on an easy schedule tonight, swimming only the two relays. In his absence Grant Hackett and Anthony Matkovic swam the 200m freestyle. Pieter vd Hoogenband did not swim this one, leaving an easy victory to the world 1500m champion in 1:49.01.
From poolside the Dutch swimmer commented on his rivalry with Thorpe: "We were the only two swimmers in the world swimming 1:45, now he is the only one swimming 1:44; so now I have to do better. I am so motivated to swim very fast in the future."

Australia had five wins on the board before the Europeans struck thru the agency of Polak Bartoz Kizierowski, in the 50m freestyle. Kizierowski also won the only other event to the Europe All-Stars in Match 4.
For the Australians Welsh, 100 and 200 backstroke, and Hackett, 200 and 400m free, were the double winners on the night.
Michael Klim despite his appointment with surgeon's scalpel this coming week showed he is on the way back to form with a win in the 100m fly, stopping the clock at 52.51.

Most outstanding swim of the night went Geoff Huegill in winning the 50m Fly in 23.63, 0.19 short of his WR, earning 1009 on the IPS chart.
