Britain Selects Team for European SC in Antwerp

Sep 3, 2001  - Anita Lonsbrough

Twenty-six swimmers have been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Short Course Championships in Antwerp, December 13th-16th. But only Mark Foster of those who won individual medals at the World Championships has been selected.

Graeme Smith the double medal winner in Fukuoka, is unavailable while there is no place for Zoe Baker. Joanna Fargus Britain's other individual medallist failed to qualify.

Bill Sweetenham the Performance Director has stuck to his policy, which stipulated that the 50m places except for the freestyle, which is an Olympic event, would go to those who were selected for the 100m distances.

Baker who established a European record in Japan, won the 50m breaststroke easily but could only finish third the 100m at last month's British Short Course Championships from which were also trials for the European short Course Championships.
