CLEMSON, SC- The Clemson swimming and diving teams defeated Florida State at McHugh Natatorium earlier today. The Tiger women defeated Florida State by a single point, 122-121. The Clemson men put together a superior performance scoring 156 points to the Seminoles' 85.

The Clemson women claimed the top three places in the 1000 freestyle. Sophomore Kim Cober won the event in a time of 10:19.09. Junior Catherine Blaney finished second for the Tigers with a time of 10:21.89. Sophomore Alison Gjervold earned third-place honors by finishing in 10:22.78. In the 200 free, junior Jenna Burtch posted a first-place time of 1:52.73. Senior Nina Douglas was a close second at 1:53.43. For the second week in a row, the Clemson women turned in a solid performance in the 400 medley relay. The Clemson "A" relay won the event in a time of 3:49.44. Members of the relay include seniors Mandy Commons and Patty Hider, junior Elise Theiler, and sophomore Kate Walker. The Clemson "B" relay which includes junior Lindsey Kroeger, sophomores Caitlin Bissell and Courtney Humes, and freshman Christine Woodruff, finished in third-place with a time of 3:55.44.

The Tiger men swept the distance freestyle events with great performances from senior Andy Meek, juniors Adam Tepe and Jeff Atteberry, and sophomore Travis Taylor. In the 1000 free, Taylor won the event in a time of 9:35.47, followed by Meek who finished in second-place with a time of 9:48.33. Tepe claimed third-place honors with a time of 9:56.34. Atteberry completed the Tiger sweep of the 1000 free by finishing fourth with a time of 10:03.67. In the 500 free, Taylor and Meek went 1-2 again, with times of 4:40.96, and 4:45.15, respectively. Brent Hitchcock posted a third-place time of 4:47.43, and Tepe took fifth-place in 4:53.21. The Clemson men dominated the 100 free by taking the first four places. Freshman Derrick Mulder won the event with a time of 46.98. Junior Josh Williams was a close second at 46.99. Sophomore Drew Scheerhorn finished third in 47.02, and senior Kenny Roberts finished fourth in 47.07. In the men's 200 back, sophomore Mark Henly finished in first-place with a time of 1:50.92. Senior German Martinez claimed second-place honors with a time of 1:52.22, and the sweep was completed by freshman Buddy Reed who finished third with a time of 1:52.22.
