LARAMIE, Wyo. - After an eleven hour bus ride, the University of South Dakota Coyotes took on the University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams for the first dual of the year in Corbett Pool. The Cowboys outscored their opponents 158-78, as the men finished in first place in every event of the meet.

"Our kids swam very well and we expected them to," said head coach Tom Johnson.

Junior Jake Weidert came away with the first place finish in two events, including the 1000-freestyle (10:29.66) and the 500-freestyle (4:59). Juniors Jon George and Damian Storz ended with the top times in both of the 100 and 200-freestyle events. George finished in first place in the 100-freestyle (49.06) and second place in the 200-freestyle (1:49.19). Storz ended with a time of 1:48.38 in the 200-freestyle and 50.28 in the 100-freestyle. Senior Oscar Delgado also experienced success as he finished in first place for the 1-meter diving competition with 314.93 points.

The Cowgirls finished the dual with 157 points, compared to USD's 64. Three of the women came away with a first place finish in two events apiece. Sophomore Ashley Mallett finished with the fastest time in the 500 and 1000-freestyle (5:26.98 and 11:08.61, respectively). Junior Allison Schmid ended the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:15.09, as well as the 100-freestyle with a 55.40 time. Junior Missy Lewis also wrapped up first place finishes in the 50-freestyle (.25.27) and the 100-breaststroke (1:06.22).

"I was very surprised with the breaststrokes, especially the women's breaststrokes," said Johnson. "Missy went 1:06.22 and she went 1:06.00 at conference (championships) last year, so I felt really good about that."

The Cowboys will be facing the Air Force Academy Falcons on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Corbett Pool at 4:00 p.m. Both the men and women will then go on the road to Denver for a dual against the University of Denver Pioneers on Nov. 10 at 11:00 a.m.
