Bulldogs Fall to Wolverines 131-111

Nov 5, 2001

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The men's swimming and diving team came up short against the Michigan Wolverines 131-111 at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are now 2-2 on the year, while the Wolverines improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1994-95.

"Michigan was better than we were today," said head coach Jack Bauerle. "I thought we could have swam a little bit better. We are not quite as healthy as we need to be, certainly to take on a team like Michigan. We swam a little tired, but the good side is that is from good hard work. We wanted to get two meets under the belt, which we did. We wanted to get two wins, which we didn't. The competition will definitely be good for the guys down the line."

Georgia won four events on the day, including the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Jason Gagnon, Nicolas Kintz, Marc Lindsay and Matt Brado clocked in with a time of 3:09.32. Kyle Salyards took first in the 200-yard breaststroke in with a time of 2:05.27. Andrew Mahaney's time of 1:48.66 was good enough for a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, while Lindsay took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.22)

"Michigan is a top-10 team and one we judge ourselves by," added Bauerle. "We hope to have (Michigan) at NCAAs. We need to get a little better yet, but I think we are on the right track."

The Bulldogs will return to action on Nov. 30 at the Georgia Invitational.

Men's Final Score:
Michigan 131
Georgia 111
