RIO DE JANEIRO - The first ever outdoor FINA World Cup is being staged in Brazil, under warm sunshine and ideal summer conditions (28 celcius air temperature this morning, but warmer for the afternoon prelims, with the pool water 28). The two day format has been stretched over three as live television dictated an early morning start. The finals are being scheduled for 9 am to allow Rede Globo to broadcast to an estimated 30 million audience on Sunday morning. Prelims for today's events were held last nigth at 6 pm after the opening cermeonies at 5.
12 countries have entered 100 swimmers, and there is added incentived to perform as the hosts will be providing a $ 1,000 bonus for the top performance of the competition.
