Defending champion Mimi Bowen (Auburn) goes into the final with the third-fastest time of 53.46.

Event 10 (200 freestyle - PRELIMS) - SMU's Martina Moravcova took the first step toward her third NCAA title in the 200 freestyle by posting the top qualifying time of 1:45.91 in prelims. She owns the U.S. Open and NCAA records in the event with a 1:43.08 at last year's NCAA championships. Moracova, an eight-time NCAA champion, won the 200 individual medley yesterday.

Event 11 (100 breaststroke - PRELIMS) - Georgia's Kristy Kowal, the American record holder in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.04 earlier this season, will enter finals with the top qualifying time of 1:00.24. The mark set a new Dorothy L. Sheppard Pool record. Defending champion and former American record holder Grechen Hegener of Minnesota posted the third-fastest time in prelims of 1:01.19.
