The First Inspector

Jun 30, 1998

On April 15th 1925, Frank J. Sullivan, Princeton Swimming Coach and President of the College Swimming Coaches' Association of America, announced that an official, called the Inspector of Lanes and Turns, had been created with the duty of seeing that each swimmer touched the edge of the pool when turning, and also stayed within his lane. Sullivan added that these changes had been accepted by the Western Conference and the Missouri Valley Conference, and it was expected that the Eastern League also would accept them.
