Penn State Receives Three Big Ten Weekly Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned more weekly accolades as three Nittany Lion student-athletes picked up Big Ten honors, the conference announced Tuesday.

Junior Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named the Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Week, senior Alison Riccobono (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was named the conference Women's Diver of the Week and senior Daryl Northrop (Verona, N.J.) picked up the Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week for their efforts in Penn State's sweep of West Chester on Nov. 23 at McCoy Natatorium.

Biedermann picked up her second career Swimmer of the Week award after claiming two individual first-place finishes and a win in a relay race. She won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.23) and the 200 medley relay (1:43.33). She also won an exhibition race of the 100 butterfly in 56.69.

Riccobono picked up her third career conference honor, and second of the season, by sweeping the 1- and 3-meter springboard events. She won the 1-meter competition with a score of 278.48, and the 3-meter competition with 294.90.

Northrop collected his first career conference honor after leading the Nittany Lions' swimmers with four first-place finishes. He won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events in 20.83 and 46.21, respectively. Northrop also paced two winning relays, as Penn State finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:31.41) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:23.78).

Six Penn State swimmers and divers have picked up Big Ten honors this season.
