German superstar Thomas Rupprath set a new European record today in the men's short course 50m backstroke at the German Short Course Nationals today. His time of 23.42 took 0.33 seconds off of his previous record, set in 2001.

German backstroker Jenny Mensing set a new national record today in the 200m backstroke at the same meet, posting a time of 2:08.56. Mensing's record is good news for the DSV as ace backstroker Antje Buschshulte and world champion freestyler Hannah Stockbauer have announced they will not be swimming at next month's Short Course European Championships.
