Rosolino to Compete Through 2008

Oct 29, 2004

Italian Olympic champion Massi Rosolino has made the decision to continue swimming through the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Having won an Olympic title in the 200 IM as well as medals in the 200 and 400 freestyles, Rosolino is now training for new distances and events including the 800 and 1500 meter freestyles. That said, he has no intentions on giving up his pet events, the 200 and 400 freestyles.

As reported by Italian news outlet Il Mattino, Rosolino will swim the 1500 at the European Short Course Championships this December. In addition, he hopes to compete in the 800 meter freestyle at next year's World Championships in Montreal.

Now ready to embark on this new phase in his career, Rosolino has returned to Italy to train in Rome under the watchful eye of Claudio Rossetto, coach of Filippo Magnini and Federico Cappelazzo, who also joined him on Italy's 800 freestyle relay team in Athens.

With a new blueprint to follow for the coming years, Rosolino hopes his new surroundings will culminate in garnering the continental golds still missing from his trophy cabinet: European short and long course titles in the 400 meter freestyle. As the continental record holder in both, the task shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish. December's European Short Course Championships will be his next opportunity.
