WOMAN BREAKS THE MEN'S WORLD RECORD
When Sybil Bauer, of Chicago's Illinois Athletic Club, in a meet in Bermuda on October 8th, 1922, broke the men's world 440 yard backstroke record by no less than 3.5seconds in a time of 6 minutes 24 4/5 seconds, she became the first woman to break a world record held by a man. The old record of 6minutes, 28.0 seconds was held by Harold "Stubby" Krueger of Honolulu.

The next year, Krueger, out for "revenge", moved to Chicago where he joined Sybil's club, and under the tutorage of "Big Bill" Bachrach, lowered the MEN'S world record from 6 minutes 28.0 seconds to 6 minutes 12 seconds. Honour had been satisfied.
