Manaudou and Bousquet to Attend Short Course Worlds

Sep 19, 2004

Though France hasn't released a finalized team for October's Short Course Worlds, two swimmers who have agreed to attend will certainly make their country's presence known

After winning her country's first swimming gold medal in more than 50 years, and leading a small but potent French contingent to six medals in Athens, teenage superstar Laure Manaudou is poised to strike again in Indy. Entered in four events (50/100 backstroke, 400/800 freestyle), Manaudou enters the favorite in at least her pet event, the 400 freestyle, and is a sure threat in any other event she swims.

Short course superstar Frederick Bousquet has also announced his participation in Indy. Bousquet, who has blossomed over the past two years in large part due to the U.S. collegiate swimming system, enters the meet as the holder of the world record in the short course 50m free (21.10), and also has posted the third-fastest 100m free (long course) relay split in history. In addition to the 50 free, Bousquet will also enter the 100 free, 50 and 100 fly.

It remains to be seen whether or not France's other Athens medalists (Malia Metella, Solenne Figues, and Hugues Duboscq) will announce their participation.
