Justin Mortimer Added to U.S. World Short Course Championship Team

Sep 18, 2004

The men's 1500-meter freestyle at October's Short Course Worlds will be an all-Mission Viejo affair for USA Swimming. Justin Mortimer will join his Olympic medal-winning Nadador teammate Larsen Jensen in Indy.

Mortimer has been on an upswing since his third place finish in the 1500 at the Olympic Trials, winning four events at the 2004 US Summer Nationals, and swimming in some high profile open water events this summer. Mortimer will be in action tomorrow at the Tiburon Mile in San Francisco, joining fellow World teammate Sara McLarty.

A busy season lies ahead for Justin as he completes his last year of eligibility for the University of Minnesota, where he is an NCAA finalist and Big 10 champion. In addition, Mortimer will compete in the FINA Open Water World Championships this December in Dubai.

Mortimer and Jensen are the next in line to continue Mission Viejo's storied history of success. Since 1968, Mission Viejo swimmers have won 47 National Team Championships, 12 Olympic Gold Medals, 7 Olympic Silver Medals, 1 Olympic Bronze Medal, 5 Individual World Championship titles, and 148 individual National Championships. The Nadadores have broken 91 American Records, 22 World Records and have produced more than 135 All-Americans.
