Michigan State Defeats Ball State in Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Michigan State swimming and diving teams had a night of strong finishes in a dual meet with Ball State University Thursday in Muncie, Ind. The women's team defeated the Cardinals, 146-92 and recorded 11 first-place finishes, while the men's team scored 130 points against Ball State's 113.

Senior Ildiko Szekely (Budapest, Hungary) was among the Spartan standouts at the dual meet. She took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.71, and swam the 500 free in 5:11.18 for a first-place finish. Freshman Jennifer Windstein (Lancaster, Pa.) also made an impact for MSU, finishing first in the 200 free (1:56.72) and the 200 fly (2:11.44). Senior Carly Weiden (Kentwood, Mich.) dominated the women's diving with a final score of 309.53 in the one-meter board and 311.02 in the three-meter dive, earning first-place honors in both events.

In the men's races, senior Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) led the Spartans with two first-place finishes, including the 500 free (4:48.42) and the 200 fly (1:55.27) The Spartan men also swept the diving events. Junior Nick Visscher (Holland, Mich.) took first in the three-meter with a score of 246.45, while freshman Justin Laskowski (Bay City, Mich.) won the one-meter boards with a score of 252.67.

Head Coach Jim Lutz shared his thoughts on the team's performance: "We felt pretty good out there. The team had an opportunity to swim different events, and although we were pretty tired, we're getting consistent."
