Northwestern Women Sink Minnesota 184-114

Evanston, Ill. - After falling to the 25th-ranked team on Thursday night, the No. 21 Northwestern women's swimming and diving squad rebounded Saturday to trounce 24th-ranked Minnesota, 184-114. The win upped NU's record to 1-1-1.

Freshman diver Ashley Carter (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) came away with her first college victories on the springboard, winning both the 1-meter (246.30) and the 3-meter (256.35). Christy Michalak (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) also earned points on the 3-meter, coming in second with 254.05 points.

On the other end of the pool, junior transfer Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Western Australia) remained undefeated in the 100 fly as a Wildcat, touching in 56.44. In fact, the 'Cats dominated the 100 fly by taking the top four spots. In the 200, junior Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) earned her first victory of the year with a season-best time of 2:02.71. Her time also was a NCAA 'B' standard time. Johnson also came away victories in the 400 IM (4:26.73).

Junior Megan Keefe (Blowing Rock, N.C./Watauga) posted back-to-back wins in the 50 free (24.35) and 100 free (52.94).

Junior Susie Sample (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) was also a two-time winner, taking both backstroke events. Her time in the 200 back (2:01.52) was also a NCAA 'B' standard time. Sophomore Nicole Bernard (Seattle, Wash./Blanchet) placed second in the 100 back (57.82). Bernard also won the 500 free (4:57.33).

Sophomore Katie Simmons (carmel, Ind./Carmel) won the 200 breaststroke for the third time this season, posting a season-best time of 2:17.76. She also came in second in the 100 breast at 1:05.13.
