After breaking two school records in the first two days of the invitational, Lavell smashed the school record in the 1650-free Saturday for her third school record in as many days. Lavell finished in a time of 16:23.56, breaking the school record by more than 25 seconds while also shattering the pool record by more than nine seconds. The mark also was an NCAA "A" standard for the rookie swimmer. Lavell now owns four school records as a freshman in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 1000-free and the 1650-free.

Other winners for the Terps included Kelly Bowman (Hauppauge, N.Y.) in the 100-free (51.62) as the Terps swept the top six places in the event. Junior Bridget Mallon (Arlington, Va.) also had a good night, as she won the 200-fly in a time of 2:01.22 (NCAA ?B? Standard time).

On the men's side, Maryland senior Thomas Ehrhardt (Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany) set a new school record in the 100-fly (1:48.22). Two other Terrapins won events as senior Michael Malchak (Columbia, Md.) finished first in the 1650-free (15:56.98) and junior Brian Luoma (New Castle, Del.) won the 100-free (46.57).
