Tara Sloan, a member of the University of Calgary Swim Club was involved in a serious car accident on Saturday which has left her in a coma. The accident occurred near Medicine Hat when she apparently lost control of the van she was driving and it rolled several times in a ditch. Tara was flown by air ambulance to Calgary's Foothills Hospital.

She apparently suffered major injuries to her lungs and head. She also suffered a broken hand, several broken ribs and a broken shoulder blade.

At this time, doctors are keeping Tara in a coma in order to reduced her brain activity and keep her brain swelling to a minimum. Her parents having been at her bedside keeping vigil.

Tara was on her way to Saskatchewan to visit her grandmother at the time of the accident.
