Australian Age Group Championships - Day 2

Apr 12, 2000  - Ian Hanson

Leisel Jones 14, clocked 1:08.30 in the women's 100 breaststroke, setting the Australian Age Group Record with one of the fastest times in the world so far this year. Before this meet her personal best in the event was 1:10.18.

When asked about her time and performance after the event, she was quoted as saying, "I am so excited about tonight's time, I really wanted to swim under 1:09.00, but to go 1:08.30 is faster than I thought, that's for sure. One of my team mates, Sarah Bowd told me to real go for it over the last 25 metres and I just put my head down and went for it,"s.

Jones' performance will make her a serious threat in the women's breaststroke events at next month's selection trials.
