More Record Swims By Inge De Bruijn

May 27, 2000

SHEFFIELD-Inge de Bruijn, NED, continues her long course record setting at the Speedo Super Grand Prix, May 26-28.

During the first session she equalled the existing world record in the 50 freestyle with her 24.51. The record dates back to 1994 when Le Jingyi (CHN) won the World Championships in Rome. de Bruijn's time is a new European record, bettering her former record of 24.89 from last summer's European Championships.

The 50 butterfly world record was lowered by de Bruijn for the second time in a week with her 25.64. Last weekend in Monte Carlo she posted a 25.83. The existing record of 26.29 is held by Anne-K. Kammerling (SWE).

Dutch swimmers won six of ten events today.
