Olympic Torch Relay Adventure

Jun 8, 2000

One of our correspondents, Paul Quinlan has been travelling in Queensland, Australia to meet up with the Olympic torch relay, in order to follow the event for himself. He sent us the humorous email note regarding his adventure to meet up with the torch.

"Yesterday I crossed the River Jordan, south of Lake Galilee, entered Jericho and 'the promised land' to officially arrive in 'Outback Queensland' to greet the Olympic torch relay.

All of the above are actual place names.

On Saturday, 10 June, the torch will arrive in Longreach, home of the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, as it settles in to its journey of 27,000km (16,875 miles) by land, sea and air around Australia, before entering the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on 15 September. Torch bearers will number 11,000."
