South Africa Announces Olympic Team

Sam Ramsamy, the President of the National Olympic Committee of South Africa (NOCSA), announced the fourteen members of the South African Swimming Team, which will form part of the National Olympic Squad that will participate at the forthcoming Summer Olympic Games to be held in Sydney later this year, at a media videoconference on Wednesday.

Headed up by Atlanta Olympic Games Double Gold Medallist and World Record holder, Penny Heyns and World Short Course Champion, Sarah Poewe, all fourteen swimmers are all highly ranked in the latest official rankings released by Swimnews and are capable of reaching at least semi-finals with several medal contenders.

The team consists of the following swimmers:

WOMEN
Penny Heyns (KZN), Sara Poewe (WP), Amanda Loots (CGA), Helene Muller (VT), Charlene Wittstock (KZN) and Renata Du Plessis (WP).

MEN
Brandon Dedikind (KZN), Ryk Neethling (FS), Terence Parkin (KZN), Theo Vester (KZN), Roland Schoeman (NT), Brett Petersen (WP), Simon Thirsk (WP) and Nicholas Folker (KZN).
