University of Washington To Cut Swimming

Jul 28, 2000

The University of Wahington has announced that they will shut down their mens and womens swimming programs after the upcoming season.

The reasons given by the University are that the aging facilities need to be replaced and the school will not spend the money to replace them. The swim teams compete in the PAC-10 conference where they finished 6th and 7th last year. However the University does not consider the program or teams to be national level contenders and has therefore chosen to close down the programs.
