The Australian swimming team elected its team leaders. Both the men and women elected 3 individuals. For the men Daniel Kowalski, Chris Fydler and Ian Thorpe and for the women Sarah Ryan, Elli Overton and Giaan Rooney were elected.

Hired but not elected were several security guards. It seems the Australian team has hired security guards in an effort to keep the autograph seekers away from the swimmers at their 2 week training camp in Melbourne.

The security guards will also accompany some of the higher profile swimmers on their excusions around town to ensure that they are not hasseled.
