Massachusetts Tops New Hampshire

AMHERST, MASS. -- Junior Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.), junior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.), freshman Diana Alberti (Wantagh, N.Y.) and sophomore Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) each won two events to lead the University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team to a 187.5-112.5 win over the University of New Hampshire at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool, this afternoon in the season opener.

Dettloff won the 200 free (1:56.43) and the 500 free (5:12.03), while Alberti won the 100 fly (1:00.98) and the 200 fly (2:12.51). Kazanjian won the 50 free (24.94) and the 100 free (54.38), while Allery finished first in the one-meter dive (230.78) and the three-meter dive (254.03).

Other UMass winners were junior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) in the 200 back (2:07.38) and freshman Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the 200 IM (2:14.36). The 200 medley relay team of Rowell, freshman Christen Dexter (Centerfield, Mass.), Kazanjian and Dettloff placed first with a time of 1:50.35, while the 200 free relay team of sophomore Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.), Kazanjian, Hunnewell and Dettloff won the event with a time of 1:39.30.

The Minutewomen return to action on November 4, when they host Central Connecticut at 1:00 p.m., at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool.

Final Score: UMass 187.5, New Hampshire 112.5
