Suzu Chiba Announces Her Retirement

Reports from the Japanese Swimming Federation say that Suzu Chiba is retiring.
Chiba who is 25 has been at odds with her federation after she qualified for the Olympics at their trials but was left off the team. She subsequently lost her appeal on the matter in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
This will be the second retirement for Chiba. She retired after the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta but decided to comeback in 1998.
According to her coached Bud McAllister, Chiba was sick and recovering from the flu during this years Olympic Trials although her best time last year of 1:58.78 in the 200m freestyle would have been good enough to earn a bronze at this year's Sydney Olympic Games.
According to McAllister, Chiba was expected to be coming back to Canada in the next 2 weeks, but he wasn't sure how this announcement would affect her return here.
