2013 Worlds. Pedersen rewrites world record in 200 breast

BARCELONA - Rikke Møller Pedersen’s world-record performance in the women's 200 metres breaststroke highlighted the fifth day of the World Championship on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Danish swimmer qualified fastest for tomorrow’s final in a qorld record time of 2:19.11.

Rebecca Soni of USA set the previous mark at last year Games.

In other highlights Ryan Lochte won his third straight world crown in the men's 200 metres individual medley, touching first in 1:54.98 and in the men’s 100 metres freestyle, Australian James Magnussen won the second consecutive title in a time of 47.71.

In the women’s 200 metres butterfly Chinese World record holder Liu Zige won in 2:04.59 while defending champion compatriot Jiao Liuyang was just 6th.

In the women’s 50m backstroke Chinese Zhao and Fu finished one-two.

Finally, United States won the women's 800 metres freestyle relay ahead of Australia and France.

USA lead the gold medal standings with 8, four more than China, with Australia, South Africa and France on 2.
