Sprint Queens Gather For Eindhoven Edge

Mar 19, 2013  - Craig Lord

Watch for a sprint showdown at the Swimcup Eindhoven, on April 4-6, as double Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo (NED) takes on double Olympic champion of 2008 Britta Steffen and German teammate Dorothea Brandt, Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and Dutch teammates Femke Heemskerk and Inge Dekker, over 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle.

The dash features Kromowidjojo, Dekker, Sjostrom, Brandt and Heemskerk; the 100m, Kromowidjojo,  Sjostrom, Steffen, Brandt and Heemskerk; the 200m Sjostrom, Heemskerk, Kromowidjojo - and Hannah Miley (GBR) and Theresa Michalak (GER), too.

This month, Kromowidjojo clocked 24.56 and 54.14 as her season openers over 50 and 100m at the British Gas International, while Sjostrom started her season with efforts of 25.11, 54.54 and 1:56.70 at the Swedish Grand Prix.

In Dortmund in February, Steffen was to be found on 25.15, 54.83 and also clocked a 2:00.36 over 200m in Essen in January.  Brandt clocked 25.32in the dash in Osnabrück this month.

Meanwhile, Miley may be the busiest swimmer in town, yet again: alongside the 200m free, she takes on the 400m free, the 100 back, 100 and 200 breast and the 50, 100 and 200 'fly.

Visitors will have to be fast to challenge the best Dutch: the meet serves as a world-titles qualifier. There to catch the wave will be ADN Project international teammates Bruno Fratus, Andrey Govorov, Evgeny Korotyshkin, Sergey Fesikov, Evgeny Lazuka, Vitaly Melnikov and Henrique Martins.

The meet is sprinkled with experienced internationals keen to lay down markers on the way to Barcelona world titles in July and August.
