Horter Appointed France Swim Director

Jan 29, 2013  - Craig Lord

Lionel Horter, the Mulhouse coach who served head of France's senior coaching group from 2009, has been appointed Technical Director for the French Swimming Federation (FFN), the nation's Ministry of Sports announced today.

Horter succeeds Christian Donze, who died after suffering a heart attack on October 21 last year. Donze was just 51.

"Five candidates ran for the position. Following a process in which all were welcomed by the management of the sports ministry and the FFN, the President of the FFN Luyce Francis and Valerie Fourneyron agreed on the choice of M. Horter," the ministry stated.

A former international himself, Horter has long been head man at Mulhouse Olympic Swimming, one of France's leading clubs, its members including former 200m backstroke world champion Roxana Maracineanu and Olympic 4x100m freestyle gold medallist Amaury Leveaux.
