Villanova Defeated In Connecticut

STORRS, CONN. - In its second meet of the weekend on Saturday, Nov. 4, the Villanova University men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Storrs, Conn, to take on the University of Connecticut at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. One day after sweeping Seton Hall, the Wildcats were defeated by the Huskies with the women losing by the score of 169-131, and the men falling to UConn by the score of 197-91.

Senior Kristen Olson capped off a tremendous weekend, winning three individual events against Connecticut. Olson placed first in the 50 (24.22), 100 (52.51), and 200 1:52.67) yard freestyles. She broke UConn pool records in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Also recording victories for the Huskies were senior Katie Armitage in the 200 yard individual medley (2:09.49), junior Valerie Mesplier in the 100 yard butterfly (59.28), freshman Katie Shipe in the 200 yard backstroke (2:07.48), and fellow freshman Michelle Diago in the 500 yard freestyle (5:04.41). The Wildcats also were victorious in the 400 yard freestyle relay event (3:33.90) crossing the finish line with a new pool record.

In men's competition, senior diver Brian Mulligan swept the diving events for the second straight day. Mulligan won the one-meter dive with a score of 280.88, and the three-meter dive with a score of 256.35). On the swimming front, sophomore Adam Walchak took home a victory in the 100 yard butterfly (53.71).

Villanova will resume competition on Nov. 17, traveling into Philadelphia to take on La Salle at 6:00 p.m.
