News casts and print media have been reporting daily since mid December on what is referred to as the IOC Olympic Scandal. Olympic champion Mark Tewksbury was quite involved with many aspects of the Games. He's resigned from all his positions, disgusted with the corruption and the on-going scandal. He speaks out on page 6-7. It takes courage to say it like it is.

Karin Helmstaedt attended the IOC Doping in Sport Conference in Lausanne early in February and her report is on page 7-8. It's easy to see why the Olympic Scandal will just get worse.

We have the results of recent competitions such as the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union's Swimming Championships, and the the East / West Junior Nationals.

Our annual World Junior rankings for boys born 1980 and later and girls born 1982 and later (same ages as those competing at annual European Juniors) is on pages 10-11. This list will give a good idea who the most prominent up-and-comers in our sport are. Many of these will be medalling in Sydney next year.

The TOP (Tiny Olympic Prospects) entry of 916 swimmers was one the biggest ever. Its wonderful that so many kids have taken part in what is a very low-key, simple distance and skill-oriented program. All we need is for all of them to become subscribersÑless than half are. Cecil Colwin returns after taking time to finish the manuscript of his latest book Swimming Dynamics. He writes on Charles Steadman, author of Manual of Swimming, published in 1867. It was the first technical book on swimming.

The story of Allison Wagner, Olympic silver medallist in Atlanta and her battle with an eating disorder is told by Nikki Dryden who at one time was on the same team at the University of Florida.

Coverage of the Oceania phase of the World Cup and the subsequent start of the European portion follows. Two more world records were bettered. Jenny Thompson in the 100 IM and Susie O'Neill finally broke the 200 fly record she's been chasing for at least the last five years. Tag is up-to-date for all meets received to mid February. Only the finalists from the East / West Junior Nationals have been entered. Prelim times are coming next.
